Holmedal church was built in 1854-1857 from drawings by the architect C G Blom-Carlsson. The new church replaced a timbered cruciform church from 1686, situated approx.
200M west of the present church, at the same place where a wooden church from the Middle Ages stod before.
Holmedal church was built in neoclassical style and has a fairly unchanged exterior. The church has a rectangular church hall with a narrow built-in sanctuary and flank small rooms.
During 1996 an extensive restoration was made and the retable and the pulpit, among others, were preserved.
The vicarage with a manor house from 1806 and the Karl XII cabin, moved here in 1739, are nearby. History tells that king Karl XII has stayed overnight in the cabin, hence the name.
