This area, rich in variety and natural values, has long been used by man. The Bergslags forests were heavily taxed to provide fuel to the metal production of the cabins. Due to the fact that the forest area has been left largely untouched since the pile bushes ceased in 1950, traces of earlier forest land use have been largely preserved. Likewise, biodiversity has passed. This is partly due to the fact that forestry has been carried out in small-scale forms and with varying intensities over time and partly on topography of the area, with hard-to-reach sections in brant and large terrain, and partly due to the high soil and humidity.
The reserve was formed to conserve and develop biodiversity in a natural area with natural forests and wetlands. The area is part of the EU's valuable nature network, Natura 2000.
Directions: From Karlstad drive road 63 past Filipstad towards Hällefors. After crossing towards Långban and after sign towards Dammhyttan turn left towards Öringen, drive 4.6 km on a new gravel road into the reserve's parking by the lake.
