Klarälven river has always been important for our area. It has been the livelihood for many, and its power has driven sawmills, ironworks, glassworks, paper mills, and hydropower plants. The river has also been an important means of transportation for both people and goods. Klarälven was the last river used for timber floating in Sweden, remaining in use until 1991.

Varied Fishing

The river offers varied fishing in both fast-flowing and calm waters. If you’re lucky, you might catch perch, pike, grayling, ide, burbot, salmon, roach, tench, or trout. Forshagaforsen is known for its salmon and trout fishing.

Find Your Own Hidden Gem

Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the surroundings along the riverbanks. Perhaps stop for a picnic at the old ferry landing in Edeby, visit the café and art gallery at the former power station Gamla Kraftstationen i Deje, or take in the views from the bridge in Skived. At Forshaga canal, there is a cultural trail that passes the locks and along the stone-paved barge canal. Follow the Stream

You get close to nature and wildlife when traveling on the river. Maybe you’ll see a beaver working on its lodge or an elk drinking by the shore. At low water levels, large sandbanks form in the inner curves. Stay in the outer curve for open water. If you don’t have life jackets, you can borrow them for free for the whole family at Fritidsbanken in Deje.

Swimming in Klarälven Is Not Recommended

Klarälven offers beautiful places to stop and enjoy the water. However, it is not an official swimming area. Please be aware that swimming in flowing water requires extra caution.
