The famous Swedish poet Nils Ferlin was born in Karlstad at Sandbäcksgatan 7 in the district of Klara. His father worked at the newspaper Nya Wermlands Tidningen. In 1908 the family moved to Filipstad where the father became editor of the newly started newspaper Bergslagen.
In June 2002 Karlstad set up a statue of Nils Ferlin. The sculpture is called Ferlin steppar (Ferlin tap-dancing), and the artist is Thomas Qvarsebo. It is located at Västra Torggatan, north of Stora Torget.
