At Sandgrund Lars Lerin is a collection of watercolours by the popular and ever-present artist. Most recently, Lars Lerin was seen in SVT's programme Stjärnorna på slottet, where he and the other participants shared his eventful life. At Sandgrundsudden in Karlstad is the artist's own permanent art gallery, where you can enjoy the beautiful views, animals, nature and people that are some of Lerin's favourite subjects. It is not only Lerin's own paintings that hang on the walls here, there is also room for various guest exhibitors. Right now, Gerd Göran is exhibiting his art between 4 February and 28 May, and later this summer you can see Örnulf Opdahl between 24 June and 27 August. At Sandgrund Lars Lerin you will also find a shop with posters, postcards and other products - some of which are only available for sale here. The large, light-filled space also houses a café, and if you're lucky you might be able to meet Junior or Lars Lerin himself.

At a comfortable distance on Sandgrundsudden is the nearest neighbor. Värmlands Museum. Here you will find everything from Värmland's cultural history to other exciting exhibitions. The permanent exhibition Värmlandsliv shows, based on today's Värmland, people's lives in the landscape over 10,000 years. If you like art, Insight and Outlook is something for you. It displays more than 170 works from the museum's collections. There are also temporary art and photography exhibitions. Right now with names like Axel Törneman, Jāzeps Grosvald and from 21 April Anna Clarén - Need to be needed. Don't forget to visit the museum's restaurant Matbruket which serves modern and tasty food in a cultural setting.
Brigadmuseum is a military experience museum where the basic exhibition is about the Cold War and the Swedish people's home during the years 1945-1991. There is something to discover for everyone, old and young, and visitors are encouraged to explore the interactive exhibition with all their senses. Coffee, homemade buns and other goodies are available in the museum's café, and on Thursdays the popular pea soup with pancakes is served for dessert.
Alsters herrgård is Gustaf Fröding's memorial farm which is located just east of Karlstad and is open daily from May to September. The 18th century manor house is located in a beautiful natural environment with a view of Lake Vänern. Every day there are tours of the famous poet's life and in the manor there is also a restaurant, shop and gallery. Here you can experience a traditional midsummer evening with folk dances and midsummer pole, concerts with Swedish artists and other activities such as markets and courses.

Music and other events
The magnificent Karlstad Theatre, located on the banks of the river Klarälven, was designed by Johan Axel Anderberg and opened in 1893. Since 1975 you have been able to experience Wermland Operas performances and productions of the highest quality in the form of operas, musicals and concerts of all kinds. Do you like musicals? Then you'll have to hold out until 28 September when The Hundred-Year-Old Who Stepped Out of the Window and Disappeared premieres. The musical is based on Jonas Jonasson's successful book and you can follow Allan Karlsson on a clever, fast-paced and imaginative journey. A warming musical is promised - bursting with swinging music, a few more or less meticulous old men, fifty million in a suitcase, an elephant, a suitcase, a couple of stupid villains, a corpse or two, historical world leaders and lots of dynamite and fuse wires.
On Tempelriddaren , the Värmlandsteatern you can see a production of Carin Manheimer's play The Last Dance. Between 11 March and 28 April, you can see this play for those who want to live a full life. With humour and warmth, you follow some people as they try to find their place in life at the new retirement home. Värmlandsteatern is a theatre association that has contributed to Karlstad's cultural life since 1987 and, in addition to its theatre performances, also has a theatre school under its umbrella. This summer, the stage moves to Alster Manor's warehouse where Not all thieves come to steal is staged between 3 June and 1 July. It promises a pulse-pounding comedy of errors in Dario Fo's classic farce.

In Karlstad there are also other venues where you can enjoy music of different kinds, theater, stand up, fairs and many other events. At Karlstad CCC Nöjesfabriken and Scalateatern you'll find event calendars for everything that's happening. During the summer, the Mariebergsskogen – the city park of Karlstad an excellent venue for concerts. Under clear skies at sunset, you can enjoy Håkan Hellström on 21 July, Tommy Körberg on 29 July and Gyllene Tider on 2 August. Then Johnossi and Danny Saucedo come to Mariebergsskogen's Friluftsteater on 18 and 19 August, so there are plenty of musical experiences to choose from!
Enjoy the restaurants in Karlstad
In the Inner Harbour you can enjoy the proximity to the water and eat well at one of the popular restaurants on the pier. There is something to suit most tastes, both in terms of food and drink. At the Olssons Bazar there is something to eat from early morning to late evening at their bakery and adjacent restaurant. Are you more interested in really good tapas, shrimp on a sunny summer evening or local beer brewed in their own microbrewery? Then simply head to the other side of the harbor and Naviero, Ankdammen and Good guys will solve it for you!
In the Inner Harbour there is also a wonderful smell of freshly roasted coffee from Löfbergs. On the glassed-in ground floor of the coffee skyscraper is Löfbergs Rosteri och Kaffebar. At Rosteriet, not only fantastic coffee is served, there is also a unique opportunity to learn more about coffee beans which, through various roasts, combinations and brewing methods, give the drink its own taste and character. You can also join a guided tour inside the coffee factory. Exciting, good and educational!

Craft bakeries with a focus on sourdough bread, specialty coffee and delicious pastry cakes can be found at both Artisan Bread, located in beautiful premises at Kasernhöjden, and at the Swenströmskas Stenugnsbageri on Östra Torggatan in the center of town. If you are curious about what it looks like when all the goodies are baked, you have a full view of the bakery in both places. If you would rather have a more rural feel a little bit outside of Karlstad, the Liljenäs Gård and Rotnäs Gårdsbutik something for you, just check their opening hours online. There are ice cream creations, homemade coffee, shops and cute animals to visit.
