Locally produced food and drinks
In Kristinehamn there are many local producers of food and drinksfor example you can taste beers at Wermlands Brygghus or cheese cakes and jams at Mor Carin. Hygns Wild offer meats of deer and moose etc. from their own butchery. In the town centre you find Retrovågen with a delightful deli counter. And a few kilometres south of town you have Karaby farm , a farm shop with tasteful local products.
Many restaurants in Kristinehamn also use local produce for their menus. Choose between the historical route, The Iron Trail or Visnumskilslederna (Prästöleden, Nötöleden and Arskagsledenwith astonishing views of lake Vänern. Want to go on a bike ride? Vänerleden was inaugurated on 3 June 2022. Cycling around Sweden's largest lake can be both calm and challenging, depending on your pace. If you want to pedal faster, you have five mountain bike trails to chose from.
Go horseback riding on a pony at Karaby Gård, Bed & Breakfast, Icelandic horses you find at Ölme Icelandic horses, trolley cycling on Trelänsbanan, pet the animals the Town farm, try gocarting or make a bbq outside. In a geranium greenhouse at Niklasdams Pelargonmuseum there are around 450 different kinds to smell.
Kristinehamn archipelago
Enjoy the forest pantry, the tranquility, strong colors, unique nature and clean fish-rich waters, Lake Vänern offers free fishing. In summer you can board a tour boat. You can choose between riding Kristinehamn's own wooden boat Stötenor go to Karlstad by Båtbuss 96 (boatbus 96) or around the archipelago with Båtbuss 96 (boatbus 96) and see Lake Vänern. This year, the boats start and end in different periods, which means that the boating season is extended between 21 June to 27 August. Hiking, running or camping in Värmlandsskogen. Fishing, swimming in fresh water, enjoying a sandy beach, sunbathing on rocks - or why not just lie down on the grass and listen to the birds. The water tastes sweet and can be drunk. A wonderful kayak trip with Vänerkajak or Stadshotellet or in winter skating is a fantastic way to experience lake Vänern.
Mid town Kristinehamn
Kristinehamn town centre is small and personal with unique shops, fashion stores, delicasys and design. Do not miss Krukmakeri hemjord in an old red house by the river. This is where turner champion Annbritt Schmutzer has her workshop. Find pottery, coffees and teas, homemade ice creams, licorice and desginwares. The oldest house in town houses more interior design at Lev Vackert butiken som är den omtalade och unika inredningsbutiken som har över 144 K följare på instagram. History and culture
From the 17th century until the 19th century, Kristinehamn was the most important shipping site for Bergslagen's bar iron. This is where the world market price of iron was decided. You have several opportunities to gain more insight into Kristinehamn's exciting history: follow along Regina Nordenfeldt or Gustaf Fröding on a personal city walk, follow the nine signs about the old town, follow the quest to life in Krisitnehamn 1800-1850 or step into the history of Kristinehamn historical museum.
Culture is widely present in Kristinehamn with many artists such as Ingemar Lööf, Karin Lööf, Bengt Olson, Stig Olson, Kjell Sundberg, Harry Moberg and Gunvor Nelson. Visit Kristinehamn - art museum where you will find contemporary art exhibitions. The art museum is in an old heating building that former belonged to the hospital Marieberg. There is a café and an italian restaurant with view of lake Värnen. This summer's exhibition is one of Sweden's foremost fashion designers of all time, namely Katja of Sweden shown during the period June 4 - September 11, 2022.
Enjoy the view of Lake Vänern's sparkling waters and the wonderful walking and Vänerleden along the bay from Gustafsviks herrgårdspark - manor park in the west, via Östervik chapel and onwards to the Guest Marina and town centre in the east.
