Sign: Norra Torget

  • During 1830, there was a large wooden house on the site called the Vågmästar residence. It was demolished in 1937 in favor of the modern functional style building that can now be found on the site, and which until autumn 2021 was used as a bank. Today's building is an example of 20th-century classicism, also called Swedish grace. Today, the building is used as temporary headquarters for the military.

In the Vågmästar residence lived the Scale master who was responsible for the weighing of iron in the port. He was one of the most powerful men in the city. Here he hosted, among other things, royalty. In the 1820s, e.g. a crown prince and crown princess came here to visit and were received with music, salutes, lighted marshals and regiments in a row.

What king was here on a visit as crown prince?
