Experiences to Remember
Old and new, rest and activity, tranquility and speed, small and large, summer and winter, spring and autumn. In Torsby, you’ll find contrasts that are really just the ends of a long spectrum of fun and exciting experiences. Here, you’ll find opportunities for experiences beyond the ordinary.
History and Culture
Do you enjoy art, museums, nature, and historical settings? Then you’ve come to the right place. Explore our art farms, museums, and Finn farms with their captivating environments.
Finnskogen, with its blooming meadows, the scent of smoke and coffee, is a forest filled with experiences and atmospheres from another time and culture. In the 1600s, Finnskogen was colonized by Finnish settlers. Using their perfected techniques, they harvested abundant crops from the ashes of burned forests. The memories still live on at our Finn farms, which are the best-preserved in Scandinavia, many of which are open to visitors.
A Cultural Selection
- Finnskogscentrum in Lekvattnet is a visitor center featuring a museum, library, shop with a café, exhibitions, and events. The museum hosts an exciting permanent exhibition, and each year a new summer exhibition is created around a specific theme.
- Sahlströmsgården in the idyllic village of Utterbyn, holds memories of remarkable artistic destinies and strong personalities. This was home to the three artist siblings Anna, Bror, and Ida Sahlström, and a gathering place for their artist friends. A unique memorial set in a turn-of-the-century environment, it showcases rich collections of art and handicrafts.
- Utmarksmuseet with the Pilgrim Tapestry in Ransby, a 40-meter-long linen tapestry, is Sweden’s answer to the French Bayeux Tapestry in Normandy. The tapestry is displayed in its own medieval-style log house and tells, through tens of thousands of stitches, the story of pilgrims’ journeys from Hammarö to Nidaros.
- Kollsberg in Torsby, beautifully perched at the northern tip of Lake Fryken with sweeping views, is one of our many charming heritage farms. Here, you can experience the local history and gain insight into what life was like in days gone by.
