The original for the Taserudsstake was probably bought at an auction in Blomskog in 1904 by Elis in Taserud. He took the candleholder back to the Bröderna Erikssons Furniture workshop in Taserud where a few copies were made.
It wasn´t until 1930 when Matts Eriksson started a production that it spread over the globe. Today his son James Eriksson and grandson Urban Eriksson are two of them who holds the tradition and production alive. The modern, colourful kind of the candle holder is made by Marita Olsson.
The Taserudsstake is a strong symbol for Arvika and many that have emigrated from Arvika keep one of these candleholders at a special place in their home. It is also a popular gift from Arvika.
The Taserudsstake that is seen at the lay-by area Gate, near the round-about from Karlstad, was built and placed there in 1994 as a new marketing symbol for Arvika. The candleholder is made of plastic and weighs 2,5 tons, it is 8 metres high and anchored in concrete.
