The reserve, which is 53 hectares, consists mainly of a large key biotope of the type of heathland pine forest, with surrounding crack valley spruce forest and swamp forest areas. To date, 11 red-listed species have been observed in the area, most of them associated with old deciduous trees (eg folding ticks, cream ticks, leather patch slaves), others are pine wood (ex. Dwarf beaver lava). The area was used for forestry in the 1960s
The whole area is hilly and consists of north-south oriented rifts with interspersed by pine-covered ridges. The east and west boundaries are 180 meters above sea level, while the highest ridge reaches up to 250 meters above sea level.
