An altitude ridge of 180-280 m above sea level with strong slopes and fractured valley landscape. "Skutegubben" is sometimes visible from County Road 177.

The reserve was formed to preserve a diverse, fractured valley landscape with rare species linked to shaded lead areas, hardwood spruce forests, deciduous trees, old and late-grown trees and dead wood.
