Brattfors Firefield consisted of the pine forest with lingon rice and various lichens on the ground. The forest was usually forested and the age of trees varied from about 10 to 80 years. In marshes, single pines may have reached a significantly higher age. The intensity of the fire varied greatly within the area.
The reserve was formed to preserve a firefield and allow its characteristic vegetation and wildlife to develop freely based on the natural conditions of the area. The area is part of the EU's valuable nature network, Natura 2000.
In coniferous forests, the fire is an important ecological factor, and recurrent forest fires create a mosaic of habitats in the landscape with surfaces that have burned on different occasions and therefore come a long way in growth. Due to the modern firefighting and the low inclination of forest forests to fire, fire-fired forest has become a very unusual feature of the forest landscape. The Brattfors fire field therefore has a high public value.
