Ice fishing in the winter can result in great fish and is very fun but it is important to be aware of what you can do to decrease the risk of accidents happening during your fishing trip.
1. Bring a fishing friend! – so you can help each other if something happens!
2. Make sure you are wearing ices picks and floating gear (life vests etc) BEFORE you step onto the ice.
3. Check the thickness of the ice by drilling a hole by the shore and measuring. It needs to be at least 10 cm.
4. Examine the ice regularly with an ice spike when moving around so you discover the weak areas.
5. Never walk out on unknown ice. Snow on the ice doesn´t mean it´s safe!
6. Always consider your own safety an don’t take unnecessary risks!
