A historic place where you can learn about how the forces of nature created what today is the canyon where you find Brattfallet and it´s waterfall.
Brattfallet is a 10 meter high waterfall. During high flow of water, the waterfall's very powerful. After the waterfall Brattfallet, Halgån flows through a canyon.
The beautiful stone bridge dates back to 1923 when the road was built by hand over the mountains of previously roadless land. Summertime, when the water flow is low you can climb on the stone walls. The work, an AK-work to combat poverty in the 20's unemployment, is remembered with a memorial stone.
Rafting was common on Brattfallet down to the river Klarälven until the end of the 70s. When Klarälven river, after the ice age eroded down into the fjord and river sediments created a huge height difference - Halgan dug then into a easily erodedfracture and Brattfallet with its canyon created.
Three hiking trails are based from here, read more under hiking, Brattfallet/ The Halgå trail
The Halgå trail starts at Brattfallet, located on the east side close to the river Klarälven, just north from Ekshärad. Brattfallet is signed with brown signs marked from Fastnäs and the village "Byn". From Ekshärad you can reach Brattfallet from two directions: first, by going east across the bridge to the intersection in the village "Byn", and take a left and head north, about 15 km. You can also take the road 62 on the river Klarälven's west side, cross the river in Fastnäs, and then take a left to the south 5 km. At you final destination there's good signage.
