Come and paddle the Bergslag’s canal and experience an adventure with history and locks to navigate, all closely surrounded by nature. The waterway is 65 km long and stretches from Karlskoga in the south to Filipstad in the north. The trail comprises 10 lakes, 3 rivers, 7 sounds and 5 locks, and offers a rich variety of experiences. We begin in the Lunnedet outdoor leisure area. Here there is camping and the opportunity to eat well, stroll around in the beautiful idyll, and visit Knappfors with its lock and the old sintered stone houses. This is an area that is alive in summer time with exhibitions and different events. When we feel ready to paddle the first part of our journey, we set the canoes into Lake Alkvettern. The trip then presents us with a variety of natural surroundings with high wooded ridges, marshes, lakes and sounds before we reach Nässundet sound. North of Nässundet lies Gransundet sound and there Kummelhöjden heights is located with views over the magnificent surroundings. We canoe on towards Stor-Lungen and the mouth of the Lungälven river. Here there is an opportunity to take a detour in the winding river channel before we continue towards Bjurbäcken locks. At Bjurbäcken we choose the locks and the 3 km long manually-excavated canal. Having navigated the locks at Asphyttan the journey continues towards Filipstad where we turn back to Karlskoga. If we want to vary the trip home, we go via Prästbäcken down towards Storfors and then on towards the destination Karlskoga. The total length of the tour is approximately 120 km and takes 7 days. If you would like to do a 4-day tour you can canoe in one direction only. There are good opportunities for camping. The cost of the Naturkort is extra.
