The European ash in Hösås among the northernmost in Scandinavia. The ash tree is special in many ways, and it is an art that requires good nutritional conditions and offers many other organisms a living space. Examples are lichens, mosses, fungi, insects and molluscs. The ash tree is also a culturally important tree, people use to collected branches with the leavs on, then they dryed branches with leaves on and gav as food to the domestic animals.

The reserve was established to preserve the population of Ash and the plant communities found in the area, as well as to promote nature studies and outdoor life for the public. At the very top of Hösås you can see far over the countryside and Vänern, in clear weather you can even see Kinnekulle on the other side of Vänern.

E45 from Karlstad and Årjäng follow signs towards Nysäter. Continue through Nysäter via road 175 towards Arvika. Just north of Nysäter take the exit to the left. Follow the road, signs for parking/hiking on the left.
