The first church in Gräsmark was opened in 1663. Around 1730 the parish decided to build a new church. According to folklore, the people of the parish could not agree on where to build the new church. To decide, they put two oxen in front of a sledge and let them roam freely. When the oxen finally stopped, the spot was chosen for the location of the new church.
Swedes and immigrated Finns built the church together, and it was opened in 1738. The ceiling has a beautiful painting by Erik Jonaeus and represent the Day of Judgement. Altar piece by Isak Schullström, 1753. Because of it beautiful location by the lake, Gräsmark church is a very popular church for weddings.
