The original church in Västra Ämtervik was built in 1673. This first church was unfortunately lost in a fire in 1815. The present day church was built between 1818-1820, and is a good example of a neoclassical church in this part of Sweden.
During the fire of 1815, there were only a few inventories that could be saved. For example, the unusual baptismal font, bought in 1704. The altarpiece and the pulpit are from the year 1825. The church was renovated 1989.
