It was lieutenant Erik Gustaf Lagerlöf, father of author Selma Lagerlöf, who began cultivating the mineral spring at Ås, three kilometers south of Mårbacka. The mineral spring was closed in the 1950s, and today the area is an active open air museum. The old spring restaurant is now used for parties during the summer. There is an open air theatre stage in the grounds, as well as an old-fashioned open air dance floor. The centre of the open air museum is an old cottage from the 18th century, where you can see historical furniture and household articles.
The museum is open by appointment. Please view the homepage for futher details.
