Mattila is known for its good skiing conditions with varied tracks that suit the whole family. A place go get fit for the big event Vasaloppet. The Mattila Ski Marathon is held every year in the first weekend of February as a preparation for the Vasaloppet. Mattila is also located at a relatively short distance from the ski resorts of Hovfjället, Branäs and Skasenden in Norway.
Summertime
Some of the hiking trails in the area are the Finnskogsleden and Mattilaleden. Of course, it is also possible to go for a short walk. There are maps available for orientation.
Other activities include swimming, boat trips, berry-picking, fishing.
There is an outlook tower from where you can enjoy the view.
Year-round activities
Sometimes Mattila arranges special evenings at the smoke house, as in the old times in the Finn Forest.
Other Finnish settlements are located nearby, such as Juhola, Abborrtjärnsberg, Purala and Fjolperstorp. Guided tours are available.
At only 7 km distance, just across the Norwegian border, you can visit Finnskogtoppens health center, with swimming pool and healthy, good food.
