The old country road that goes from Remjängs village to Remjängssätern was in olden times the natural connection between the parishes Järnskog and Östervallskog. New smokehouse and spring. Sätervallen is today an 8.6 hectare community owned by the landowners in Remjäng. Sätern can be reached by car or if you wish you can walk the Säterleden (approx. 7 km) from Remjäng's water saw. In an opening in the middle of the dike there are 3 cabins and outbuildings with stables for 9 horses. Private landowners have built two of the cottages and in 1920 the larger so-called "Hopstugan" was built jointly owned by the landowners. The cottages are in good condition and have always been used as night accommodation by forest workers, hunters and fishermen. Hopstugan also serves as a meeting place for hunting and forestry matters. The Real Estate Court has once held a hearing there regarding a road dispute. The small open plate around the cottages and the stable is maintained by the villagers, and every summer a manor day is arranged. The manor has been described by the Swedish Forest Stewardship Council as "a very beautiful manor environment that has been preserved despite newer buildings". On the manor there are traces of a so-called smokehouse from the 18th century. The cottage was still there in the early 1900s and the photograph is from 1910. The smokehouse had a fire pit in the middle of the floor and a smoke trap with smoke emissions in the ceiling plus a smaller room with a brick wall for the people who took care of the shack and cattle. Until it ceased in the 1920s, Remjängssätern was one of Sweden's southernmost summer cottages. In Västvärmland's manor, the animals traditionally had free grazing throughout the whole of the forest and the manor mostly served as a fenced gathering place for evening feeding to attract the cows home to the barn when it was time to milk. In addition to a long summer residence here, the manor also has a tradition as a center for forestry in this part of western Värmland. During the winter, up to ten helpers and five riders with horses lived in the manor. Today, the manor is a popular gathering place for the locals and tourists.
