You can pedal a rail bike between Degerfors – Kristinehamn – Gullspång – Torrved, and the total distance is 65 km. Once upon a time, steam locomotives puffed along here, carrying passengers and goods. More recently, rail buses whizzed through the spruce forest, stopping at the red-painted station houses. For over a hundred years, Nora Bergslags Railway was a vital transport link in southeastern Värmland. Now, no steam whistles blow. Stationmasters, station workers, and the life that was tied to the railway are gone. But thanks to voluntary efforts, you can now experience the old railway in a new way.
Pedaling a rail bike is a fun and enjoyable outing for families with children, groups of friends, school classes, or workgroups. Here, you get a touch of adventure and wilderness nature, and the lovely rest areas are inviting for cozy picnic stops. Along the track, there are several geocaches that can give you a bit of a puzzle. Or why not stop and pick wild strawberries beside the track, look for forest berries and mushrooms, fish in the forest pond Däveln, or take a quick dip at the small pier?
There are a few simple overnight accommodation options for those who have a sleeping bag with them.
Rentals are available at Degerfors rail-trolley station and Gullspång rail-trolley station. The rail-trolley station at Konsterud south of Kristinehamn is closed in 2025.
The Otterbäck Railway is now called the Trelänsbanan (Three Counties Railway).
