sights and activities
Granbergsrundan is a quality-assured and certified Hiking Värmland trail that takes you to Granberget (700.5 meters above sea level), the highest point in Värmland. From the lookout tower at the summit, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views in every direction. The trail is a circular route of approximately 8 kilometers.
Granbergsrundan is a moderately challenging, quality-assured, and certified Hiking Värmland trail that offers varied terrain through dense forest, across ridges, and past sites of cultural and historical interest. The hike begins at the parking area and leads you up Granberget through beautiful and untouched nature.
Along the way, you’ll pass Norra Åselbergssätern, an old summer pasture hut that remains open for hikers. This is a perfect spot to take a break and experience a traditional mountain pasture setting that echoes times gone by. When you reach the top of Granberget, a tall lookout tower awaits, offering a fantastic view over the vast forests, lakes, and mountains of northern Värmland. On clear days, you can see far into Norway.
The final kilometer of the loop follows a gravel road back to the parking area. Granbergsrundan also partially overlaps with the longer Nordvärmlandsleden, making it possible to combine routes for a longer hike. You may also choose to hike up and down directly from the parking area – in that case, it’s about 2 km to the summit.
Please note that the beautiful view can only be experienced from the top of the tower. To reach the top, you need to be able to climb steep stairs – both up and down. The trail can be very wet during rainy periods, and there are sections that are rocky or difficult to walk. The gravel road to Granberget is approximately 16 kilometers long and can be both rocky and bumpy in parts. Low-clearance vehicles are not recommended.
