And old forrest with a lot species
Norskog Skallberget Nature Reserve is a part of Skallbergen,a high altitude area comprising several peaks. The highest peak within Norskog Skallberget is 440 meters above sea level and forms the eastern part of the reserve. Right through the reserve goes Ravelsdalen. At the heights, the forest is pine dominated and sparse, with old and knotty trees. Even the spruce is old. Deciduous trees in the form of birch and single aspen are spread in the reserve. The area has a clear fire history. There are many trees with fire traces. One tree shows traces of five fires. Deadwood is found throughout the area, but the largest volumes are found in the pine areas. There are several smaller marshes in the area. The reserve was formed to preserve the precious habitat of natural, old barrskog and to conserve disadvantaged and threatened species that are characteristic of the natural habitats in the area.
