Old forest rich in species
Old forest rich in species The reserve consists of a hight portion about 420 meters above sea level and it's belonging slopes and hillsides. Within the object there are six key biotopes. On the hights you will find old forest with late-grown firs and gnarled pines of which some are as old as 300 years. Further down the slopes the spruce elements increases. In parts of the area the human impact is low and the area has natural forest qualities. Dead wood can be found in the shape of dry trees and high stumps. The area carries traces of fire impact and there are fire stumps spread out across the reserve. In the spruce-dominated lower parts of the reserve the humidity is high and even. The nature reserve was formed to preserve the valuable living environments of natural old pine forest, coniferous woods and preserving threatened species which are characteristic for the biotopes of the area. Animals and plants The area hosts a number of signal species whose presence indicates valuable forests. Signal species such as different lichens, sawyer beetles and more.
Road description: Situated in Värmlands county, Hagfors municipality about 15 kilometers west of Hagfors. Drive north from Munkfors about 16 kilometers on highway 62. Turn left towards Lysvik until you reach Lakenesjön. Turn north before the lake and continue until a t-junction at the end of the lake. There you turn left and continue a short bit until Skogsängarna (there is no sign but there is a collection of houses). Turn onto the road heading north. Continue about 2,2 kilometers and turn left towards Skallbergstjärnarna. There is no parking space. From Skallbergstjärnarna it is about two kilometers along the way further into the woods before reaching the reserve. There is no marked trail.
Regulations: In the reserve it is forbidden to:
* collect invertebrated animals such as beetles, shells and butterflies
* collects mosses, lichens or adherent fungi
* harm or remove dead wood sich as lying down or standing dry trees or branches
* drive vehicles * harm or remove nature objects or surface formations or harm the ground cover
* without the permission of Länsstyrelsen for nutritional purposes organizinly exploit the area, and for schools and institutions to regularly use the area to perform scientific or other examinations
