Scalateatern has been a theatre since 1992
The history of the venue dates back to the early 1960s when the Scalabiografen was built, but when Filmstaden opened in Karlstad in 1992, the venue became empty. The venue was converted into a theatre stage with the non-profit associations Cabary and Värmlandsteatern as initiators. The stage was further developed in 1998 with a wider and higher stage, developed stage technology and better spaces for the artists. Cabary was the first to appear on the Scalateatern stage with its New Year's revue at the turn of the year 1992-93. Since then, the Scalateatern has been an appreciated and central part of Karlstad's cultural offering, with audiences enjoying theatre performances, concerts, stand-up comedy, musicals and dance shows.
