Next to the Cathedral you will find The Old Grammar School. The original name of the school was Gymnasium Adolphus Fredricianum. It was inaugurated in 1759 and got its name after the Swedish king Adolf Fredrik. The building is one of the oldest in Karlstad and was regarded as the most distinguished grammar school in Sweden. The characteristic eight-angled tower on the roof was used as an observatory. Nowadays the building houses the school museum and the archives of Karlstads-Gillet.
