From 10 June to 1 September you can take one of the beautiful boat buses to various places in Karlstad and/or Hammarö. The boat trip costs no more than a bus ticket and you book and pay for it in Värmlandstrafik's app or directly at the boat. A single adult ticket costs only SEK 31 and you can also buy 24-hour or 72-hour tickets. All buses depart from the Inner Harbour.

If you want to experience a Klarälv tour with many opportunities for coffee stops, line 90 is a good option

Line 90 runs between Inre hamn, Almentorget and to Färjestad or Björkås, which means that no matter which direction you are travelling, there are many great stops to get off at.

The bustling Inner Harbour with its lively atmosphere and many restaurants and cafés is well worth a longer stop. Not least because the coffee scrap with Löfbergs Rosteri and coffee bar ensures that the city smells good of freshly roasted coffee.

The boat bus serves the Pråm Canal and the lock in Haga and there is a nice stop at the picturesque Café Slussvakten, which was expanded in 2020 with a restaurant kitchen and specialises in Persian and Middle Eastern food.

Sandgrundsudden is a cultural oasis with both Sandgrund Lars Lerin and Värmlandsmuseum. At both destinations, in addition to the cultural experience, you can fill up and also give your stomach what it needs.

Almentorget is just a stone’s throw from the centre of Karlstad, with all the cafés and restaurants that entails. The outdoor stage in the Almen neighbourhood also hosts various performances during the summer.

Short boat trip to the many experiences of Marieberg Forest

It’s no wonder that route 91 from the Inner Harbour to Mariebergsskogen is the most popular boat bus trip. Mariebergsskogen is Karlstad’s city park, and here you can experience animals and nature up close in Naturum Värmland and in Lillskogen Zoo. You can explore the play garden, play tired on the large playgrounds, explore the open-air museum and take part in events for all ages. Not only that, but admission is free all year round.

Combine your boat trip with a walk across the meadows

If you want to take a nice and different route to Mariebergsskogen, you can hop ashore at the “Mariebergs strandängar” stop and walk on footbridges, either about 500 metres directly to Naturrum or the entire 3-kilometre walking trail. Marieberg’s beach meadows are nestled between the 400-year-old pine forest and the Klarälven wetland and water.

Take the boat bus to some of Lake Vänern’s 22,000 islands for swimming and/or hiking

Every day there is the possibility to go out on Lake Vänern with Storholmen. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, route 93 operates between Inner Harbour and Jäverön, and on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays it operates between Inner Harbour and Västra Långholmen.

Jäverön

Jäverön offers great hiking along prepared hiking trails through forests, natural pastures and meadows. There are several shelters and picnic areas on the island, and you can take a dip in the inland sea at one of the many bays and cliffs.

Västra Långholmen

Västra Långholmen is a small island in the outer part of Vänerskärgården. It has beautiful rocky beaches and easy-to-walk paths through pine forest. An accessible footbridge runs across the island. The island has a shelter and toilet.

Hammarö, Lillängshamnen and a unique fish smokehouse

Line 94 runs every day from the Inner Harbour to Skoghall. An incredibly beautiful trip that winds its way through Skoghallsådran and stops at Café Klarälven, which is a summer café with a kiosk. From there, it takes about five minutes to walk into the centre, where you will find shops, restaurants and mini golf.

From the centre, it takes another five minutes down to Lillängshamnen. Lillängshamnen is a pleasant marina just a five-minute walk from Skoghall town centre. There is a promenade along the shoreline where you can reach the rocks via footbridges, bridges and wooden jetties. There is also a fish smokehouse where you can eat or have a coffee

Around Karlstad

Every day line 92 runs guided tours, you can choose between Karlstad around which starts at the Inner Harbour and goes one lap via the Pråm Canal and the lock, around Sandgrundsudden and further past Karlstad’s cradle and along the Western river channel past Sommaro and Knappstad, past Mariebergsskogen and back to the Inner Harbour. The tour takes about 1 and a half hours. The slightly shorter City Tour also starts in the Inner Harbour but concentrates on the city centre and all that is there, this tour takes about 1 hour.

The tour is guided through the boat’s speakers in Swedish, but it is possible to download an English guide “Visit Karlstad guide” to your own mobile phone and listen with your own speakers.

The tour costs only SEK 62 and needs to be pre-purchased at batbuss.varmlandstrafik.se
