In Arvika there are 11 nature reserves with interesting and high natural values. Glaskogens nature reserve is 28 ha big and has 300km worth of hiking trails.
In Arvika there are 11 areas which have been titled as nature reserves by Länsstyrelsen Värmland. The interesting flora, fauna and views are all worth preserving in these areas. A few of them have shorter hiking trails, beautiful vantage points and resting spots.
Bergs Klätt - An area with interesting flora, a rich bird life and several ruins. Bergs Klätt is a loved hiking destination and has a few marked hiking trails. The wheelchair accessible trail is 1.2 km and the signed nature- and culture path is 3.5 km long.
Byamossarna - is an area with desolate wildlife. The reserve was created to protect the areas mosaic of woodlands and mires and is the municipalities largest collected mire area. From the parking lot there is a 3.5 km long hiking trail around the pond called Stentjärnet. During the winters there are also several pistes in the area. It is also permitted to use snow scooters on the marked scooter trails.
Glaskogens nature reserve - Värmlands largest nature reserve with beautiful surroundings as well as breath taking lakes and bodies of water. There are 300 km worth of hiking trails as well as great resting spots and an informations center and camping site in Lenungshammar - the little village located in the heart of the reserve. Gårdviksfjället - This reserve, located on the Eastern side of Lake Värmeln and South of Värmskog, was created to protect deciduous swamp forests, rocky ground pine forests as well as luscious fir forests. From Gårdsvik there is a path to a parking lot. There are no marked hiking trails here.
Krokstadsön - A nature reserve that protects the leaf-tree abundant islands on the Eastern part of lake Värmeln. The reserve consists mostly of water and can only be reached by boat. The path leading to land is closed off for cars and there are no parking spots.
Perserud - An old woodland area with pines which are over 300 years old. The reserve was created to protect the woodland area in favour of the the natural vegetation types. The three-toed wood pecker can also be seen in the area. Perserud is closed off for cars, a woodland car road leads to the reserve. There are no trails in the area.
Rackstadskogen - Wooded slopes towards Lake Racken and from the parking spot there are several marked trails from 5-11km.
Stömne - This nature reserve was created to protect the Northern occurrences of oaktrees. The area also has a interesting bush- and herbvegetation, as well as a rich population of birds that consists mostly of leaf tree species such as nuthatches, blue tits and different kinds of singers. There is a marked trail from the parking lot.
Svarthavet - This reserve was created to protect the needletrees, marsh grounds, herb areas and escarpment. Svarthavet borders on Glaskogens Naturereserve at Glava Glasbruk. From the parking lot there is a hiking trail to the reserve and the actual path round the reserve is apx. 5km long. (all together the hike is 8km.)
Öjenäsbäcken - Is the first nature reserve in Värmland and was created to protect endangered species that live in water. These animals are mostly fresh water pearl mussels, herring and different kinds of moss. From the parking lot to the Northern part of the reserve the hiking trail is apx. 4km.
Örvattnet - The varying woodlands with old trees in different deterioration stages gives life to many different species of moss, fungi, larva, insects and birds. The area is located inbetween lakes Racken and Mangen. The paths in the western part of the reserve are closed off with barriers and the paths in the east are of low standard. There are no marked paths in the area.
