Se och göra i Eda

On the border between Sweden and Norway, Eda spreads out with its unique mix of wilderness, history and activities for all tastes. Regardless of the season, Eda offers experiences you won't soon forget.

In Eda, scenic hiking trails meet snowy ski slopes and tranquil lakes. Here, you’ll also find the three towns of Charlottenberg, Åmotfors, and Koppom, which offer both shopping and culture alongside nature experiences.

Nature Calls – All Year Round

In Eda, nature is never far away. With its 12 nature reserves, there are plenty of places to explore. A popular destination is Tallmon Nature Reserve in Charlottenberg, just a stone’s throw from the shopping streets. Here, you can walk along winding paths, use the outdoor gym, or warm up in the cabin on colder days. Another popular reserve is Glaskogen Nature Reserve, which is also the largest in Värmland. Glaskogen offers 300 km of hiking trails, ranging from easy day trips to multi-day hikes with overnight stays in shelters or cabins. There are also beautiful canoe routes and fishing opportunities.

Tip for Golfers!

Eda is also home to the Eda Golf Club with 18 holes and stunning lake views.

During the summer, Häljeboda and Skillingsfors attract visitors with perfect waters for paddling. Prefer hiking? The Pilgrimsleden Västra Värmland winds through Eda along the old railway embankment between Koppom and Skillingsfors, offering scenic surroundings. Near the Pilgrimsleden and Skillingmark’s church, there’s a delightful waffle café. A stop at the Skillingsfors Waffle Café is a must – freshly made waffles never taste as good as after a hike.

When the snow falls, Eda transforms into a winter paradise. Valfjället Skicenter is a perfect family-friendly destination with five lifts and 12 slopes. For families with children, the mascot Valter is always a favorite. After hours on the slopes, it’s nice to relax in the restaurant for a well-deserved break.

For the adventurous, Bryelsegrottan awaits. This is an ideal place to visit from February to April when you can step into the cave with the rock wall on one side and the icefall on the other.

Culture with an Exciting Border History

Eda boasts a rich cultural heritage, thanks in large part to its fascinating border history. The border crossing at Morokulien, located along Highway 61/Route 2, is the second-largest crossing between Sweden and Norway. Morokulien is best known for the Peace Monument from 1914, which was built to commemorate 100 years of peace between the two countries. From here, you can also access the Finnskogleden Trail, a 240-kilometer-long hiking path that stretches all the way to Trysil in Norway.

Another historical gem is Eda Skans. Here, you can get an insight into the area’s military history and visit the Eda Skans Museum to learn more. The border history also lives on at the Eda Glass Museum, where you can see a selection of preserved pieces from the glassworks’ production, which operated from 1835 to 1953. At the turn of the century, this was one of Sweden’s largest glassworks. Guided tours are available, and there is also a small production and sales area on-site.

Have You Seen the White Moose?

If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of Eda’s most mythical resident – the white moose. Around 15 of them roam freely in the area, so make sure to keep your camera close at hand!
