Klarälvsleden

Klarälvsleden – 130 kilometers of cycle path along old country roads and beaten gravel roads with views of the winding Klarälven River and with the wilderness as your neighbor on the journey.

At Uddeholm, the Klarälvsbanan transforms into the northern Klarälvsleden

Here you can choose whether to continue your journey along the river or turn off and pass Hagfors on your way north. A few kilometers south of Ekshärad, you pass Sun Dance Ranch, where you can stop for a coffee break or treat yourself to a horseback ride. Further north, you will find Profossdammen, where there are opportunities for fishing or even overnight stays in a traditional Lapp tent.

The road now slowly winds upward toward one of the area’s major tourist attractions – the beautiful Brattfallet, with scenic hiking trails and a lovely waterfall that invites the brave to take a dip. From Brattfallet, you have a steep descent down to the bridge on the west side of the river, where the trail continues on a gravel road surrounded by beautiful old buildings and large farms.

For those interested in fishing…

…and Klarälven’s development from the Ice Age onwards, a visit to Älvens Hus on the eastern side of the large bridge in Värnäs is recommended. If you need provisions, there is also a small shop at the gas station. The trail continues along the western side of the river, and when you reach Månäs, there is a wind shelter with a grill area near the bridge foundation by the river, in case you need to stop and rest. After a few kilometers, you pass the road leading up to Hjällstad. For those who want to cross over to Fryksdalen via smaller roads, this is a good option, but you will need a map to navigate if you’re not familiar with the area.

Branäs

The Klarälvsleden continues towards Branäs, but before that, you pass the small nature reserve Knappnäs on the right side by the river. Just north of Branäs, you can make a detour across the river to visit Utmarksmuseet with the Pilgrim Tapestry and Dalby Heritage Center. The final stretch to Sysslebäck offers plenty to see and do. Don’t miss Naturpralinen with guided tours of the chocolate factory, delicious pralines, and even homemade ice cream.

At Karlstad, the Klarälvsbanan transforms into the southern Klarälvsleden

The final stretch of the southern Klarälvsleden is 10 kilometers long, between Karlstad and Hammarö. A few kilometers into the trail from Karlstad, you can stop to visit Hammarö Art Gallery and enjoy art in all its forms. Not far from the trail lies Hammarö’s Cultural Heritage, a cultural site worth visiting. It features everything from Iron Age burial grounds, the shingle-clad Hammarö Church built in the 1300s, a heritage farm, to the Archipelago Museum featuring artifacts from the old Lake Vänern fishing industry and much more. Continuing further, you finally reach Mörudden, where you will find a restaurant, a campground, a kiosk, a Kayakomat, several accessibility-adapted swimming spots, and parking areas for those who wish to start their journey on the trail and connect to the Klarälvsbanan from there.
