Hiking trails’ degrees of difficulty
Svårighetsgraden är en sammanvägd bedömning av ledens nivåskillnader och stigens underlag. Den svåraste passagen avgör hur leden, eller etappen, klassas. Hiking Värmland-leder har följande svårighetsgrader.
Degrees of difficulty
The trail crosses ground that is flat or has a slight incline. The path surface is even, without steps or rocky sections. The trail is at least one metre broad.
Relatively easy to negotiate. All or parts of the trail follow natural pathways. Height differentials should pose no problem to persons with normal levels of fitness.
Harder to negotiate owing to steep sections and more considerable height differentials that require above average levels of fitness.
Harder to negotiate owing to steep sections and more considerable height differentials that require above average levels of fitness. Previous outdoor experience required as the trail crosses undeveloped areas. Hikers must be properly equipped and carry all necessary items with them.
Knowledge provides security
Here are some tips to prevent accidents and for you to only have pleasant hiking experiences in Värmland.
Plan your hike
- Find out today's weather forecast.
- Choose hiking according to the weather. It is an experience to hike even if it is raining, but it gets a little heavier and can get slippery on roots and wooden beams.
- Make sure you have good rainwear and choose a rest area with a roof.
Take your time
Expect you to walk 2.5 - 3 km / h. The speed depends on the degree of difficulty of the trail, how hilly the terrain is, the surface of the path and your condition. In Sweden, it is unusual to state hiking in time, so you should be a little critical of different time indications and have a good margin.
Keep in mind that it is much more strenuous to walk on a nature trail than to walk on smooth walking paths, so do not overestimate your fitness, allow yourself to take a break if you feel tired and drink plenty of water. It is always safe to hike in company and if you are hiking alone, leave a travel notice where you live and be sure to notify when you return.
Always bring a map and compass
If you are injured, lost or surprised by the darkness, it is important that you stay warm and dry. The body cools down quickly, even if it is not minus degrees outside. Always bring rainwear and extra warm clothes.
Thunder occurs during the summer. Every year, a person in Sweden dies after being struck by lightning. Some more are injured. However, personal injuries are uncommon in an international comparison. Thunder is more common the closer you are to the equator.
The Swedish Electrical Safety Agency has the following advice for those who are outdoors during thunderstorms. The lightning usually hits the highest object in the environment. Therefore, stay away from all high structures (masts, poles, towers). A safe distance corresponds approximately to the height of the structure. Avoid the border area between forest and open spaces. Also, do not stand near or under individual trees or small groves. A safe distance corresponds approximately to the height of the tree or at least a few meters from the longest branches.
- Feel free to go into the forest. Do not stand near buildings or cars that you cannot use as protection.
- Avoid metal fences and other constructions.
- Stay away from hilltops, beaches, ditches and other wet places.
- You should not wade or swim.
- Do not hold metallic or other conductive objects such as golf clubs and fishing rods.
Alarm if the accident occurs
Call SOS Alarm: 112
This emergency number is used to alert both the ambulance, police and fire brigade.
There is not mobile coverage everywhere in Värmland, even though the situation has improved in recent years. Sometimes it is enough that you walk a few hundred meters to get mobile coverage, but sometimes you need to go far. Make sure you always have charged batteries left, so that you can sound the alarm in an emergency.
