Due to worn trails, the area is difficult to visit. We recommend that you are a very used hiker to move in especially the northern parts of the reserve.
The ravines have been formed by erosion from small source streams in very fine grainy soils. From the lake Kalven in the northwest, the Lungälven slopes slowly southwards. At Brattfors there is an old cabin and a pond that makes the water slide rest. After the dam comes a stretcher, after which the Lungälven once again settles in meanderslings. As the lung elbow swings in the sand, material always accompanies the water. The elk then digs deeper into the loose soil layers and creates deep gorges. The race of the river is constantly changing, and in some places you can see how the dwarf walls broke.
The reservoir was formed to preserve the surface of the ravine system and natural forests with rich flora and fauna. The purpose is also to give the public good opportunities to experience and study the natural habitat in essentially undisturbed condition. The area is part of the EU's valuable nature network, Natura 2000.

Take road 63 between Karlstad and Filipstad. Road signs are available at the reserve in Brattfors. The reserve can also be reached south from the Geijersdalsmossen Nature Reserve p-place.
