5 tips for hiking trails

Discover beautiful Värmland on foot and experience fantastic nature, historical echoes, and varied terrain. Here we have gathered five tips on quality-assured trails in Värmland.


The Mine Tour (Gräsmark)

On this trail, you’ll experience both interesting cultural environments and beautiful natural scenery with tall spruce forests and historical mining remnants along the path. The trail takes you over hills and stones, leaving you filled with impressions.

The trail is a total of 10 km, takes about four hours, and is classified as difficult.

 

South Gunnarskog Trail (Gunnarskog)

A circular trail where you walk through varying terrain with elevation changes, a rich flora, and abundant wildlife. Along the way, you pass many beautiful spots such as the giant’s throw at Rövarstenen, the lookout point Harstacken, and Svartviken in Gunnern. If you’re an experienced MTB cyclist, it’s also excellent to bike this trail as it’s marked as a mountain bike trail with a red difficulty level. You can also reach here by public transport.

The trail is a total of 23.6 km, takes about nine hours to walk, and is classified as moderate.

The Iron Trail (Kristinehamn)

Feel the wings of history as you walk along roads used for iron transport from the Bergslagen area in the 17th century. It takes you through a varied landscape with forests and pastureland, past tarns, ironworks, and an ancient fort from the Iron Age.

The trail is a total of 5 km, takes 1.5-2 hours to walk, and is classified as moderate.

7-Cottages Trail

The 7-Cottages Trail mainly follows old paths created by the forest Finns. Along the trail, you pass seven cottages, all of Finnish forest origin. Here you also find Ritamäki Finnish farmstead, the best-preserved Finnish forest cottage in Finnskogen, and the meadow at Ritamäki, which is protected as a nature reserve. You also cross the national border between Norway and Sweden.

Hovfjäll Circuit (Vitsand)

The Hovfjäll Circuit is a trail that takes you around an entire nature reserve. Here you hike through varied nature and can enjoy enchanted old-growth forest, bogs, meadows, and rocky outcrops. Along the trail, there are several rest spots in fantastic environments.

The trail is a total of 12 km, takes about five hours to walk, and is classified as difficult.
