In Kristinehamn, there's an immediate proximity to Sweden's most magnificent lake, Vänern. Gazing at the Vänern horizon, where the sky meets the lake, is captivating. Here, it’s easy to find a spot to watch the sunset over Lake Vänern.

Vänern offers magnificent views and lovely places to visit. Here you’ll find 27 excursion spots with views of Lake Vänern and the horizon.

  • 1. Kummelöns naturreservat – Kummelön with its beautiful views overlooking Vänerviken. Here you’ll find picnic tables and a fireplace, among other amenities.
  • 2. Gustafsviks herrgårdspark – The view over Vänerviken makes you want to linger here. From the bird tower, you can observe the bird life in Varnumsviken..
  • 3. Stadsbondgården – Here is a rest area that is great for children with lots of energy. There’s a barbecue area, a great opportunity to visit the farm animals, and a lovely view over Vänerviken. Bring binoculars and head to the bird tower to get a closer look at the bird life in Varnumsviken.
  • 4. Kristinehamns konstmuseum – The art museum is beautifully situated by Lake Vänern. Bring along a picnic blanket and basket. Enjoy. It’s a lovely walking path with views of Lake Vänern between the art museum and Gustafsvik.
  • 5. Kristinehamns gästhamn – Sitting and cozying up with a picnic while simultaneously watching life in the guest harbor is peaceful.
  • 6. Sannaleden -From Kristinehamn’s guest harbor, you walk over Varnan, along the quay and the houses until you reach a forest road. A short distance into the forest, there is a rest area with a view over the guest harbor and Lake Vänern. The bird life along the shoreline is almost deafening at the end of May/beginning of June.
  • 7. Herrgårdscamping – At Herrgårdscampingen, you’ll find Presteruds Manor House from the 19th century. The manor has its own pier where the view over the strait is beautiful. Here is a “Love Tree” where couples can attach a padlock and seal their love for each other. The area is open to visit even for those who are not staying at the campsite. 
  • 8. Skymningens badplats – Enjoy a picnic and finish off with a swim in Lake Vänern. There are plenty of sun decks where it’s lovely to sit with the sandy beach below. Take a walk along the trail Sannaleden close by.
  • 9. Vålösundsvägen – The beach walk is beautiful all year round.
  • 10. Picassoskulpturen – At the shore of Lake Vänern, you’ll find one of the world’s tallest sculptures by Pablo Picasso. Lake views, barbecue areas, picnic tables, and Picasso’s art – can it get any better than that? Well… yes! You’ll also find proximity to boat tours, a Bronze Age burial site, nature trails, Jutviken bathing area, a lighthouse park, viewpoints, and cozy restaurants and cafes.
  • 11. Fyrparken From the Picasso sculpture, you can take Jutviksvägen and Fyrvägen to Fyrudden, the lookout point with a light house and picnic tables with a lovely view of Lake Vänern.
  • 12. Jutviken – Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the view of Lake Vänern, take the opportunity to swim in the great Lake Vänern. Here you’ll find a barbecue area, dry toilet, picnic tables, and of course, lovely fresh water.
  • 13. Värnanäs – Beautiful view. 
  • 14. Kungens rastplats – Lovely view of Lake Vänern and several picnic tables, shelters and barbecue areas.
  • 15. Sandvikarna and Vålön – One of the finest sandy beaches in Lake Vänern’s archipelago, a paradise for families with children. A boat trip is required.Picnic tables, toilets, barbecue areas and a playground. Take the 4 km long hike Tre öars led, between the three islands Vålön, Kalvön and Sibberön.
  • 16. Kalvön – Bring your picnic basket on your boat trip on Lake Vänern. This summer, you can either head directly to the Kalvön Nature Reserve or hike from Kristinehamn’s largest island, Vålön, before reaching Kalvön. Picnic tables, barbecue areas, toilets, smooth cliffs and camping spots. 
  • 17. Sibberön – In the nature reserve, you can relax with your picnic and enjoy the horizon of Lake Vänern. Cliffs, rest areas, barbecue spots, a rest cabin, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a sea eagle.
  • 18. Långön – Enjoy the Lake Vänern archipelago and take a 50-minute boat trip to Långön. Bring your picnic basket on the boat ride with the Boat Bus 96. It’s easy to find your own rock or enjoy the picnic tables on Långön.
  • 19. Alvön – According to many, Alvön is called the “sunbathing island,” which fits well with the island’s many polished and softly shaped rocks. If you stay overnight on the island, you must not miss following the small path to the other side of the island and enjoy the sunset over the Lake Vänern horizon. Boat bus 96.
  • 20. Revsand – Sandy beach with shallow waters perfect for children offers a wonderful sunset spot.
  • 21. Hult – Bathing pier, summer café, small beach with plenty of grassy areas for resting. It’s a great spot to gaze at the horizon and the sunset.
  • 22. Arskagsleden – This certified hiking trail runs through old forest, but at the end of the trail you’ll reach the viewpoint over Kilsviken, which is a part of Lake Vänern.
  • 23. Nötöleden This certified hiking trail has a rest area with a view over Kilsviken, which is a part of Lake Vänern.”
  • 24. Prästöleden – This certified hiking trail has a resting area with a view over Kilsviken, which is part of Lake Vänern.”
  • 25. Värmlands Säby naturreservat – The nature reserve has a lookout point with a view over Kolstrandsviken, which is a part of Lake Vänern.
  • 26. Dyrön – Hike 2.5 km towards the cliffs and enjoy a magical view of the Lake Vänern horizon. Welcome to the perfect location.
  • 27. Jaquelines naturstig – The rocks at the Southern Point of this nature trail offer a delightful view of the horizon.
