The women's players born in 2004 and 2005 will play their last youth championship this summer - the U20 World Cup in North Macedonia. In preparation for the championship, the national team will play the Scandinavian Open in Karlstad 10-12 June.
Norway, Denmark and another nation will be the opposition for the U20 national team. The tournament will be played in Sundsta Sporthall in Karlstad 10-12 June before it is time for the U20 World Championship in North Macedonia 19-30 June. It is also the last gathering for the cohort before they move on to senior activities on the national team side.
The national team, which is currently led by national coach Jesper Östlund, played its first championship in 2021 when it finished twelfth in the U17 European Championship. The development curve has been pointing upwards and it finished sixth at the U18 World Cup in 2022 and fifth at the U19 European Championship last year.
- These are two cohorts with many talented players who have developed well and grown into significant roles in their senior teams. It will be fun with a final championship and I think we have the capacity to fight for a semi-final place and medals if we get everything right. It means a lot to us that we have the opportunity to prepare for the championship at home and against good opposition," says Östlund.
